The Sweet Life

Oh Malik Sidibe.  Your photographs are endless inspiration.  HOW DID I NOT KNOW WHO YOU WERE UNTIL NOW?!!!!

Malik took most of these photographs in the 60's and 70's in Mali during a time where youth culture had been freed up by Mali's new independence from France.  Before this time, young men and woman were not allowed to dance close to each other, and they wanted to DANCE... and these photos reflect youth exploring their new found freedom.

Uhhh... this photo is gorgeous, and I want to live it.

amazing style

You can watch the documentary on Malik and his photographs HERE.

Spring inspiration for days!

I want to pair any of these prints and dresses with my leather motorcycle jacket, penny loafers (from below post) and DONE!  Spring wardrobe/uniform  ON LOCK!

Maybe Because I'm Sappy, Maybe Because I'm Drunk...

Aaaaaand the Oscar for my favorite movie goes to... Up! Well not the entire movie, just the beginning. I don't think my guts will ever be the same. I cried so hard, but not on the outside. The theater was packed, and I didn't want to bawl at the volume I wanted to, so I held it in. Ouch, I can still feel the pain in my side and throat. I rarely get all smooshy at the movies, but this annihilated me... AND THERE WASN'T EVEN ANY WORDS!!!!

Oh, and BTW, I am FEELING this song. My mind's been kinda gloomy and I've been in need of an uplifting jam... THIS IS IT!

And this jam, because it's a CLASSIC and it's my blaaahhhhhrrrrgg and I DO WHAT I WANT!!!

Bye.

Photo Mash-up

Biker love.

Took this photo at an art exhibition's closing performance. People were dressed in solid colors and movin' around all fast. Looks swoooshy and trippy.

Crazy for cat paws! These are special, there are extra toes. Mitten feet! I just remembered they're called Hemingway Cats.

Have you ever been to Clifton's Cafeteria on Broadway? What a treasure! Animatronic woodland creatures, endless jello and pie, woodsy themed atmosphere... FUN!

After you eat your weird pie you can go hang out in a strange steeple.

This is my baby niece Ivy... who found herself getting the Sloth treatment.

Took myself on a hot date to the old LACMA and La Brea Tar Pits. Doing some research for a top secret art project.

PIT OF DOOM.

A family in peril.

Oh snap. That's some trouble.

That sad little fake elephant baby's distress kinda breaks my heart.

That is an inappropriate pose!

Nice expression.

Wall of Dire Wolf skullzzzz.

I'm a big fan of sloth hands.

That sloth looks hella bummed to be in that situation.

Found myself in La Canada around the time the Angeles National Forest fire started. Heart crushing. I love that forest.

To quote the illustrious Arlie Carstens, living in L.A. has been like "living inside a flaming orange cotton ball". Yeah I guess, kinda.

Wow, I've rediscovered this jam and it's inspiring me in major ways. This song has been making me DAAAAAAAAAANNNCE!!! I'M EVEN DANCING RIGHT NOW!!!
